Login Issues

Different problems you may encounter logging into Music Monitor

Overview

Music Monitor has different login options and different types of users, so there are many different issues users can encounter when logging in.

Red Herrings

Some side issues that can prevent login, even when there are no directly login-related issues present, are:

  • Network outage in your location

  • An outage or downtime affecting the server

Direct Login

This applies if you log into Music Monitor by entering your username and password in the Music Monitor screen. If you log into using Microsoft, see the next section on External Authentication.

Self-Check

Some simple errors people can easily make are:

  • Mis-typing a username or password

  • Having Caps Lock on while entering the password

  • Using your initial (temporary) password instead of the one you set yourself after your first login

You can check these for yourself before reaching out for help.

Further Basic Issues

Other simple errors are:

  • Using the wrong username, e.g.

    • A full email address instead of just the handle

    • A staff code instead of the username issued

If you are a music teacher, you can check this with the music administrator.

Security Issues

Access Restrictions

Your school can restrict access to Music Monitor in various ways:

  • It may be restricted to only be accessible from within the school network.

  • It may be inaccessible via the web.

  • It may be inaccessible from outside Australia.

If you're trying to log in by a method that is disallowed, you will not be able to. If that seems to be your issue, check first with your music administrator. They can escalate to your IT department if needed, who can consult with the Music Monitor team if needed.

Music Monitor Update Issue

Occasionally, a Music Monitor update includes replacing the core file that stores all the login accounts. We don't know your passwords, so when this happens we have to set everyone a temporary password.

If this is the case for you, we will highlight it to the music administrator in our confirmation that your update is complete. Check for a message from your IT department or music administrator.

Once you log in with your temporary password, you will be required to set a password of your choosing. You can make it the same password you were used to using if you wish.

Incorrect Use of External Authentication

If the "External" setting is selected in your Login Accounts table, but you do not have external authentication set up, any new login accounts created while that is selected will not have access to Music Monitor.

This is a rare error, but to resolve it:

  • Un-tick the "External" box in the Settings wheel of the Login Accounts table

  • Delete any login accounts that were incorrectly set up

  • Create new login accounts for the affected users

External Authentication

If your access to Music Monitor is controlled by another system (usually Microsoft), your login needs to be set up in both places. Issues you can encounter are:

  • User not added in MS User Group: When music administrators want to give a new user access to Music Monitor, they need to ask their IT department to add the user to the group that is granted access in Music Monitor.

  • User not added in Music Monitor: While the external system controls access, Music Monitor still controls the level of access, so music administrators also need to set up the login account in Music Monitor and assign the user a Privilege Set.
